A Note from the CCBC Competition Director

Thank you for helping us celebrate the Second California Craft Brewers Cup.

This competition was created in 2019, in partnership between the Brewers Guilds of California and the California Craft Brewers Association, to showcase the innovation and immense talent of our state’s craft breweries.

This year, we received 1,249 entries from 191 breweries across the state. The beers were judged in 55 categories by a fantastic panel of judges. Words can’t express our thanks to the participating breweries, and the judges, stewards and staff who volunteered their time to help make this year’s competition a resounding success.

The beers and breweries being recognized tonight are truly the best in the state of California. On behalf of the entire CCBC team, thank you for being a part of and supporting California’s craft beer community. We can’t wait to watch this competition continue to grow.

Cheers,

Mike Witherow

2021 Craft Beer Pioneer

Each year, we recognize an individual who has propelled the craft beer industry over the years and helped shape it into what it is today. These individuals are synonymous with California’s beer scene, and it is a privilege to be able to celebrate their contributions with this prestigious award.

Judy Ashworth, 2021 CCBC Craft Beer Pioneer

Judy Ashworth, 2021 PionerJudy is known as. “The Grand Dame of Publicans,” “Beerological Mother,” “Bay Area Beer Ambassador,” and a “Beer Missionary.” We’re thrilled to now call her our 2021 Craft Beer Pioneer.

Judy has been involved in the craft beer industry since the early 1980s, where she debuted one of the first craft beer pubs in the country – the Lyons Brewery Depot located in Northern California’s East Bay. The pub later re-opened in its new location, where Judy hosted a multitude of highly sought- after events that, without fail, would repeatedly draw brewers from throughout Northern California.

Whether teaching on beer education cruises in Europe, serving as a national beer judge, or serving on the Board of Directors of the Great American Beer Festival, it’s evident that her talent and passion for the industry is second-to-none. Thank you for all you’ve done and continue to do, Judy!
